IBS 2018: New Products from Our Vendors at the International Builders Show in Orlando
The International Builders Show (IBS) is a world-wind for Jagoe Homes employees. With three days of non-stop education, show floor time, and networking, we are excited to share with you some of the new products that several of our vendors debuted at the convention from January 9th – 11th in Orlando, Florida.
Sherwin Williams – Indoor Paint
Sherwin Williams has made color-matching smarter with the ColorSnap Match smart device app, which pairs with a specially-designed ColorSnap Match paint color matching device. IBS attendees saw that the ColorSnap Match use can press the paint color matching device directly against a paint swatch or solid color of any kind to transfer an image of that color directly to the app. The app will precisely identify a Sherwin-Williams paint color, provide a palette of similar colors, or identify a Sherwin-Williams color that closely resembles the color that the device has picked up. With so many similar paint colors, this will be an easy way for all of our home buyers to choose colors with confidence.
Formica – Laminate Countertops
Formica continues to impress us with their innovations in laminate. This is not your grandmother’s countertop! Formica Corporation debuted the Quartz Composite, inspired by the look of traditional quartz, which is a much more expensive countertop material like granite. Created from concrete and recycled glass, Formica’s Quartz Composite patterns include medium to fine-fill background particulates and a blue-gray river-like vein. The composite’s Artisan finish offers a smooth, slightly glossy surface that brings out the details of the pattern. Formica also showed off its Magnetic Laminate – perfect for any kids room, where you can place this product on a wall. This is ideal for communication and display for a strong magnetic effect that can be written on with chalks or special board markers.
Napoleon – Fireplaces
Napoleon launched two new electric fireplaces this year at IBS – Alluravision and CLEARion. CLEARion is the industry’s first see-through electrical fireplace. While some people still prefer a more traditional standard gas fireplace, this is quite an innovation! The 48-inch fireplace fits in a standard wall cavity and can heat both sides of a room separately with different temperatures, and can heat a room that is up to 800 square feet in size. It is all electric, so that means that this product can be installed with no gas lines or vent runs. It can be plugged into the wall or wired directly into an electrical system. Alluravision is a frameless electric fireplace that can be built in or wall mounted without the need for venting. Homeowners can change the speed, color, and display of the flames for added customization.
Kwikset – Door Locks
Kwikset is growing its line of smart locks through partnership with Amazon to work with the new Amazon Key technology. Amazon Key allows Prime members in 37 cities to receive in-home delivery and grant secure home access for guests using the Amazon Cloud Cam and a compatible smart lock. Kwikset offers two of the lock options available when purchasing the system– Kwikset SmartCode 914, a touchpad smart lock, and Kwikset Convert, a smart lock conversion kit that converts standard door hardware in rentals to a smart lock – to work exclusively with the Amazon Key In-Home Kit. Kwikset is also expanding the Kevo line of Bluetooth enabled touch-to-open smart locks with Kevo Contemporary, a new square-shape contemporary style for a modern aesthetic.
LP Building Product’s Smartside group is a tall order! The new cedar texture vertical siding comes in lengths of up to 16 by 4 feet and also comes pre-printed. LP also introduced the Perfection shingle, which features cleaner lines and what a company official called a “modern classic look.”
Simpson Strong-Tie – Hurricane Clips
You may be wondering what this is, but Simpson Strong-Tie has made an impressive building innovation that one of our owner’s, Bill Jagoe, was especially excited about. Simpson Strong-Tie’s new Fascia-Fastening Solution is designed to securely fasten composite and PVC fascia boards while providing corrosion resistance. The two-part system consists of stainless steel fascia screws and a counterbore bit, which bores a hole that is wider than the shank of the screw. Designed for use with ½-inch to ¾-inch fascia boards, the Fascia-Fastening Solution accommodates expansion and contraction of installed boards to prevent material failures due to changing environmental conditions.
