Five Things to Do in Owensboro, KY this Fall
School is starting soon, which means Fall is just around the corner! So, what’s there to do in Owensboro, Kentucky during the autumn season? We’ve compiled a list of activities and events for your family to enjoy as the temperatures drop and we roll into Fall!
Owensboro Air Show
The Owensboro Air Show will be held on September 13-15th and includes events at the Owensboro Regional Airport (OWB) and at the Downtown Owensboro Riverfront. Friday’s static display will be held at OWB where event goers can view all types of aircrafts from helicopters to vintage airplanes. On Saturday and Sunday, pilots perform incredible displays of aerobatics and skill on the Downtown Owensboro Riverfront. These performers include the F-16 Viper Demo Team, USAF Heritage Foundation, Team Aeroshell, Philips 66 Aerostars and more! You can purchase reserved seating for the Downtown Air Show at the Owensboro Convention Center.
Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum Concerts
The Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum is hosting a number of indoor and outdoor concerts this Fall! The first Downtown ROMP will take place immediately following the Owensboro Air Show on Saturday, September 14th. In conjunction with activities during the Owensboro Air Show, the Downtown ROMP Air Show After Party features four past ROMP Festival alums: Dustbowl Revival and Rumpke Mountain Boys (who both performed at the Jagoe Homes After Party Stage at ROMP 2019), Scythian and Hogslop String Band.
Scheduled indoor concerts this Fall also include Mandolin Orange on September 28th, and the Fall Bluegrass Concert Series. Series tickets can be purchased through the museum’s website. You will receive a ticket in the same seat for the following concerts: The SteelDrivers (October 5th), We Banjo 3 (October 12th), Della Mae (October 19th), Balsam Range (November 9th), The Grascals (November 23rd) and The Po’ Ramblin Boys (November 30th). Doors open at 5 PM, show starts at 7 PM in Woodward Theatre for all concerts. Bar and concessions will be open at 5 PM, and exhibits will available for pre-show touring!
Trunnell’s Farm Market
Festivals and Events at Trunnell’s Market & Fun Acre is a hot spot for Owensboro families to gather in the Fall! Their second annual Sunflower Festival will take place over two weekends from September 7th-8th and 14th-15th. Twenty-two varieties of sunflowers with walking paths gives a whole new experience on the farm with all the sunshine and happiness that sunflowers bring! Other events include Ole’ Cider Days, School’s Out Fun Day at the Farm, Octoberfest, Moonlite Movie & Fireworks Nights, The Great Pumpkin Fest, Fall Break Family Fun on the Farm, Trunnell’s Moonlit’ Harvest Fest & Flashlight Night, Trunnell’s Harvest Fest, Adult Only Night Fall Fest, Fall Squash-N-Pumpkin Gobble Festival and The Halloween Bash & Pumpkin Smash Festival. Taste of Owensboro
The RiverPark Center hosts Taste of Owensboro on September 30th from 6-9 PM. This is an all-you-can-eat evening of excellent entertainment and cuisine samples. Over 30 area restaurants will be on-hand to let you sample their kitchens’ best. This fabulous evening offers more than just sumptuous samples. The event also features a “buffet” of hundreds of items in our silent auction! Last year’s paricipants included Colby’s Fine Food & Spirits, J’s Good Grub, Kentucky Legend, Moonlite Bar-B-Q, Mellow Mushroom and Longhorn Steakhouse, just to name a few! Purchase tickets to the 2019 Taste of Owensboro.
Reid’s Orchard Apple Festival
Possibly the most Fall-ish event in Owensboro is Reid’s Orchard Apple Festival! Billy and Kathy Reid started the Apple Festival as way to invite the community together to celebrate, educate and provide for one another. With connections through family and friends, they organized crafters, food booths and wagon rides. The Apple Festival was born on an idea of giving back and promoting homegrown produce, as well as a whole lot of community help! The Apple Festival includes 100 handmade craft booths, carnival rides, food booths and non-profit fund raisers.
