My Personal Jagoe Home Story: Week 15

In just two weeks… I’ll be CLOSING on my brand new, Energy Smart Jagoe Home! I can’t believe it! It has really crept up on me! I’ve got around 15 boxes packed up in my apartment at the moment. I’m already planning to take my area rugs to the cleaners for a deep clean, and I even ordered a new one for my owner’s suite from Overstock! That’s the ONLY piece of furniture that I’ve ordered for my new home. I’m very careful not to spend too much before my closing day.

I’ve also been calling around to get quotes for fencing from a few companies. We decided to go with a trusted landscaper who has done a lot of work in Jagoe Homes’ communities over the years, Yellowbanks Lawn & Landscape. In my deeds and restrictions for Bluegrass Commons in Owensboro, it states that my particular home site (one of several, but not all by any means) is required to have a 4′ black iron fence, as opposed to a tall, wooden or vinyl privacy fence.

My loan officer and underwriter from FBC Mortgage have been in more contact with me these past two weeks. This is because they need to do a soft pull from my credit before my closing date to make sure I’ve been in line with my spending habits and that I’ve been keeping up with my other payments and bills. They are also checking to make sure that I’ve applied for home owner’s insurance, which you need just like you do car insurance!

On the construction side… I am getting all of the “bells & whistles” and finishing touches put into my home!

My granite countertops [Precision Stoneworks] finally were installed as well as my sinks! The large, ceramic sink in my kitchen is by Blanco. These types of larger, single-bowl sinks are becoming increasingly popular among Jagoe Home buyers. I ALMOST didn’t go with granite in my owner’s bath. Marble countertops in the bathrooms come standard with the Summit Craftsman plan, but I still used them in my secondary bath to cut back on costs, and I like the white, matte marble with the Umber cabinets [Arisokraft].

As you can see, all of my recessed lighting is also finished! I decided to cap off where my kitchen pendent lighting would normally go. I will purchase those at a later date. My coach lights [Kichler] are also installed on the exterior of my home. My plumbing fixtures were installed the following week. All of my plumbing fixtures are by Delta Faucets – Kitchen: Essa Single Handle Pull Down, #9113 DST in Chrome; Bathrooms: Ashlyn faucets #2564, and Ashlyn tub/shower faucets, #T17764 in Chrome.

All of my doors, trim and walls have been painted [Sherwin Williams in Extra White].

The concrete driveway and the extended patio off of my covered patio was also installed! That’s a true sign that closing day is quickly approaching!

Since the driveway was installed, we finally let our dog, Hank, come check out his new back yard. We have always lived in apartments, so this is the first time he will have his own yard!

A drywall quality inspection was done during Week 15. The final quality inspection and Blower Door Test to insure Energy Efficiency will come right before my Home Orientation!

After those inspections are complete, and all parties are satisfied… it’s time to CLOSE!
