The Two Stages: Everything You Need to Know
🎵 Main Stage
7:00 PM – 10:00 PM | McConnell Plaza, 407 W Veterans Blvd
The headliner stage, where national touring acts, major tribute bands, and this summer’s biggest performances take place. This is the main event every Friday night.

🎵 Overlook Stage
6:00 PM – 8:00 PM | Smothers Park, 199 W Veterans Blvd
Regional and local artists set the tone before the main act. The Overlook Stage is near the signature fountains at Smothers Park and is a great place to arrive early, grab food, and get settled in before the main stage starts.

Pro tip: If you arrive at 6:00 PM for the Overlook Stage, you’ll have a full hour to find a great spot on the lawn before the Main Stage starts at 7:00.
The Kroger Street Fair
Every Friday at 5:00 PM, the Kroger Street Fair kicks off alongside the music.
Think of it as the neighborhood block party portion of the event: local food vendors, drink vendors, food trucks, family-friendly activities, and community attractions all along Veterans Boulevard. It’s a great place to grab dinner before the main stage, explore local vendors, and let the kids burn some energy before the music starts.
The Street Fair runs throughout the evening alongside both stages.

Tips for Attending Friday After 5 (From People Who’ve Been Going for Years)
Arrive early. The Street Fair opens at 5:00 PM. The Overlook Stage starts at 6:00 PM. Getting there before 6:00 means better spots on the lawn, shorter food lines, and a more relaxed experience before the crowd peaks around 7:30.
Bring lawn chairs or a blanket. The riverfront lawn is general admission, first-come, first-served. There are no reserved seats for the Main Stage viewing area.
Dress for Kentucky summer heat. Especially in May and June, evenings on the riverfront can be warm and humid. Light clothing, sunscreen, and a hat for earlier in the evening go a long way. Once the sun goes down, it cools off near the river; a light layer isn’t a bad idea if you’re staying until 10:00.
Stay hydrated. Food and drink vendors are on-site every week. Water is readily available; bring your own or grab from a vendor.
Use the trolley. The Owensboro Trolley runs during Friday After 5 and is a convenient way to get around downtown, especially if you park further out.
Check the newsletter before you go. Each week, Friday After 5 sends updates on that Friday’s vendors, activities, and any last-minute changes. Sign up at FridayAfter5.com.
Follow on social media. Weather can shift things. The Friday After 5 Facebook page is the fastest way to stay in the loop on any updates or changes week to week.
Bring the kids. The event is family-friendly throughout. Kids are welcome, and the Kroger Street Fair is set up with families in mind.

There’s something that happens on the riverfront on a Friday night in June or July that’s hard to explain to someone who hasn’t been.
The sun starts dropping behind the Ohio River. The music kicks in. You’re standing in the middle of thousands of people: neighbors, strangers, families, old friends… and for a few hours, nobody is in a hurry to be anywhere else.
That’s Friday After 5. It’s been happening every summer since 1997, and it doesn’t get old.

If you’re already here, you already know. If you’re considering making Owensboro home, come on a Friday night and see what you’d be coming home to.
